How to Link In the first part I looked at Link Exchange generally. Now I'll take you through the fun part of actually obtaining useful relevant backlinks. If you are convinced about the benefits of linking, the question in your mind must be - "Yes, but how do I go about obtaining incoming or backlinks?". There are various ways you can go about this, depending on whether you are seeking pure backlinks - the best kind; or whether you are prepared to settle for reciprocal links - the most common; or whether you want to do someone a favor and give them free publicity by unilaterally placing an outbound link on your site without one in return - the easiest to do - just to it.

We all know that online publishers earn revenue from our free reprint articles. They place pay-per-click ads on the web page that contains the article, and the advertiser pays them whenever someone clicks on the ad. Most use programs like Google AdSense which automatically identify the subject of the article and deliver an ad related to that subject.
But did you know that publishers can do a similar thing within the article itself? They can turn any word within your article into an ad! They use programs like TextLinkAds to turn select target keywords into hyperlinks to the advertiser's website. When a reader clicks on a link, the advertiser's website opens within the same window. Publishing articles on the Internet is a tremendous way to increase the number of inbound links to your site. As articles are assimilated into search engine indexes, they also begin to act as landing pages generating traffic for your site. Whenever possible, you should publish articles to promote your site.

The content of your articles should be directed to the most basic elements of your product or service. Whenever possible, try to write "how to" or "introduction to" articles. Topics like these will garner the biggest interest and be picked up by other sites. Articles that cover finer points of a subject work as well, but you should expect a smaller readership.
